Blogger is a cheap workforce

Are you a blogger? That means you're a cheap workforce. This is how you see companies that want to cooperate with you. Of course, not all but a lot of companies when writing to us for cooperation see us as a cheap workforce. In this article you will learn what barter cooperation is, when it is worth undertaking it and whether it really pays off.

What is barter cooperation?

Barter cooperation is when your product for your work (in this case a blog post, promotion on social media) is a product. You do not get remuneration in the form of money, but only the product, device, etc. you test, etc. Most often barter cooperation is offered to low-range Bloggers or by companies that want to advertise their product on blogs or on social media at low cost. For the company, it's actually only benefits - without incurring special costs (the cost is only the product that they give for testing) they receive ranges. This form of cooperation is often used by online stores and smaller companies, as well as those that are just beginning.

Thank you, we do not cooperate with barter parties

At the beginning of the blog, we started barter cooperation to build a brand and start somewhere. For some time we have stopped accepting barter cooperation, unless it is a product we want to have or we take barter in the amount of the sponsored post on our blog (also only when it is very interesting to us). Otherwise, we do not decide on barter, because we already have a well-established brand, such high statistics that this form of cooperation is not profitable for us. I don't see anything wrong with a barter, but in the long run it's seriously not profitable. Unless you are Janusz Blogger and set up a blog to have free products. If so, fall off the blogosphere and don't break it.

Why don't we cooperate with barter? Well, the sponsored post with our statistics is a cost of several thousand zlotys (I will not give you a lot, because a group of people who like to look in our portfolio will be commissioned soon) and simply tests a product worth let's give it 30 or even 100 PLN, prepare its review, photos, promotions on social media is in no way beneficial for us. If it suits you - okay, keep doing it. However, by accepting barter collaboration, you'll never start making money on your blog. Unless you write for yourself - for a pillow, it's your decision.
Information that we do not cooperate barter is visible in the cooperation tab on our blog. We want to be fair to companies, agencies and people who write to us. Why waste their time and ours? If you also do not cooperate with barter - write about it in the tab cooperationto help companies do the job when they are looking for someone to promote their product.

Unfortunately, despite this information, we still receive battery cooperation offers. We respond politely that we thank you for your interest in our blog, but we do not cooperate with barter.

How to use Blogger?

I will tell you a little bit about cooperation offers that I came across over the years (I've been blogging since 2009). To this day, we often get cooperation offers for several hundred zlotys, sometimes even for 100 zlotys. Remember that even if the offer is very absurd, it is not worth pointing out. It is better if you politely refuse to cooperate than write a long e-mail with the caps. No sense - why waste time. In addition, you do not know whether you will not find this person on the occasion of another cooperation, company or bloggers meeting. Such a person will definitely remember you. Seriously, it's not worth it.

And from interesting offers, which I recently came across on the portal, which brings together Bloggers and companies (Reachablogger) - an ad appeared with the requirements: over 10 thousand. uu, publication of a post with 3 links to an online store, mention in social media. In general, wreaths wonders, and you know what the budget of the order was? 50 PLN. net. It might be funny, but unfortunately some Bloger was tempted and published for PLN 50. sponsored post on his blog, posted 3 links to the store, mentioned it on the channel in SM and thanked for cooperation. It's sad that Bloggers don't value their work and their time. It is a pity that it spoils the blogosphere and later professional Bloggers receive cooperation offers for 100 PLN. It is not surprising, since Bloggers allow it.

Beloved, and I have experience on both sides of the barricade. I professionally work with bloggers and the media for one of the brands. I blog in the evenings. And when at work I get an offer from a blogger who wants 50 thousand zlotys (net!) For ONE MATERIAL, my hands fall. That much is not worth even the pope's text. Let's face it, our work is not worth as much as we try to get it. I also think that you should be paid for it, but without exaggeration. We should not give prices from the Christmas tree, because we know how it is with these ranges and how easy it is to manipulate these data. We are often dishonest and try to make some marketer naïve ...

    • Avatar [Email protected] 22 April 2017 / 10: 18

I see you read the post incorrectly. I am also on both sides and I always emphasize it. If you go to the 'About Us' tab, you will learn that I run a company in the field of image creation in social media and cooperation with bloggers. I worked with various companies - larger and smaller. On both sides.

In my opinion, you are wrong, if someone's blog has VERY large ranges, why not ask for such amount for the text. Suppose Bloger reaches 400 000 uu and has over a million or more pageviews. What amount do you think he should want for a blog text?

I conclude from your statement that you work for a small brand. It is worth mentioning that large advertising agencies have a larger budget than private companies, because mainly large companies that simply can afford good advertising come to them.

With statistics it is a different story at all, because it is often the case that Bloggers do not send GA statistics, but unreliable Blogger statistics. That's why a Blogger's Guide was created on our blog to educate Bloggers and avoid blogging mistakes.

Best regards and good luck! 🙂

It all depends on what barter and what cooperation. In your case, it is definitely the barter offers with the product for 100zl that turn out to be out of place. I valued art and all promotional aspects around me and I have two approaches. One thing - the product must be worth what I valued or the second way wanting to raise statistics (they are quite low) by the standards I take the product plus I arrange to promote my site on different channels. Each negotiation is individual and depends on whether the cooperation is to be one-off or long-term. And the product must be what I am interested in (at the bar).

    • Avatar [Email protected] 21 April 2017 / 10: 40

A very good approach - it is worth valuing advertising on the blog and possibly taking barter at this price. We did this for a long time before we gave up barter.

Everything has its pros and cons. Unfortunately, the Polish blogosphere is largely of low value content and I am not surprised that companies assume that we will write a review for lip gloss. Because most bloggers will write 🙂 I have a rule that if I propose cooperation myself (rarely, but it happens that I spot a gem that will attract readers), I don't want money. However, if someone writes to me, I assume that he is prepared to pay for the text. If it is not, then its loss 🙂 Regards!

    • Avatar [Email protected] 20 April 2017 / 19: 28

You're right. There are plenty of bloggers what a product to write a post and thank you for being able to write it. We skip such companies with a wide angle. It is not worth thinking about it, just do your thing without looking at others 🙂

  4. Avatar Martyn 20 April 2017 / 13: 16

Janusz-blogger stole my heart? I'm very, very beginner, that's why I want to see as much as possible! Thank you for this post ☺

  5. Avatar Renata Driscoll 20 April 2017 / 09: 51

Of course it is as you wrote. I also do not agree to barter cooperation. Generally, still a lot of companies / people are not aware of the fact that blogging is time consuming. And this is a form of work and a new profession :). Best regards, Renata

    • Avatar [Email protected] 20 April 2017 / 10: 22

That is why many people are still surprised that there are well known Bloggers, e.g. Jessica Mercedes or Fashionelka, who value. It is their profession and no one would like to work for free or for peanuts 😉

  6. Avatar Monika Jędrzejewska 20 April 2017 / 09: 48

Isn't it so that a novice blogger gets small orders, barters etc. And only when he develops can he reach for something better and more dignified? After all, no one will pay for an ad on a blog that has 100 visitors, and you have to start somewhere. Correct me if I'm wrong. How should a novice blogger behave in the face of such poor collaboration? Because he probably shouldn't sniff if he hasn't achieved much yet.

    • Avatar [Email protected] 20 April 2017 / 10: 11

Of course, any cooperation proposals must be adapted to the statistics (only based on Google Analytics). At the beginning, we also cooperated with barter, but over time we found that it simply does not pay off. Unless it's something we like / want to have. Then we approach this type of cooperation differently.

  7. Avatar Ania Stankiewicz 20 April 2017 / 09: 40

A great article. I'm slowly trying to turn my blog into a business and every remark is valuable to me. And what do you think about barter at the very beginning to gain practice in writing such texts?

    • Avatar [Email protected] 20 April 2017 / 09: 52

Ania, barter is not bad. I wrote about it in Blogger's Guide click. However, it is worth accepting such offers of cooperation with your head, i.e. setting a rate adequate to the statistics on your blog and accept barter cooperation at this price. At the beginning we also cooperated barterly. And we made a lot of mistakes in this topic - we reviewed products at a price inadequate for statistics. Nevertheless, thanks to this I can write a Blogger's Guide and warn against mistakes that I made 😉

I keep my fingers crossed for your success: *

I am very happy that I found this post. We had a fairly big problem with the valuation, so far we are wondering if, by chance, not too much or not enough ... Barter is ok at the beginning, but then you want more. You have to start somewhere and barter is a good solution here 🙂 helpful text 🙂

    • Avatar [Email protected] 20 April 2017 / 09: 57

I think everyone has a problem with the valuation of their services. Because actually how do we know if the rate we set is too low or too high. I have the comfort that I work with Bloggers professionally and I know what the rates should be at what statistics.

Ignorance also often results in interesting cooperation offers - one million requirements and the price of the 30 product PLN. Bloggers agree, because they think they've got a golden egg 😉

I invite you to other articles from Blogger's Guide if you are interested in blogging.

  9. Avatar Bielecki.es 20 April 2017 / 01: 26

I am consistently refusing barter at the moment because I am receiving offers at the 100-200 level. I can understand Barter in 2 situations. The first one when we get a really valuable item that we wanted to obtain ourselves before the offer. A good example is good quality photo or video equipment, and this one can cost a lot. The second option, if it is not as valuable as in the first case, but also will be relevant to us in retrospect and is then part of the salary.

    • Avatar [Email protected] 20 April 2017 / 09: 43

A few days ago I got an interesting cooperation offer - promotion of a product whose value did not exceed PLN 30. Of course barter. Requirements: description on the blog (minimum 2 500 characters) + few photos + link to the selected product category from our store + promotion on social media. Of course, I refused, because the requirements for 'remuneration' were not adequate. However, I suspect that someone will agree to this and thank you for the opportunity to cooperate ...

  10. Avatar Joanna Kołpak 19 April 2017 / 07: 50

Unfortunately, this is the case in every industry. Apart from the blogosphere, I also observe it in photography, where the photographer makes a photo session for PLN 100. As you write, barter is not bad, but on the right terms. Great text.

    • Avatar [Email protected] 19 April 2017 / 08: 03

Thank you for the kind words! You can do something barterly, but with your head on.

    • Avatar Canteen Blog 20 April 2017 / 09: 23

Interesting and helpful post. I stay longer dłużej

  11. Avatar Danuta N. 19 April 2017 / 07: 38

I think some bloggers have a low value to simply get "orders", unfortunately some just spoil the market (but this is the case in every industry) 😉

    • Avatar [Email protected] 19 April 2017 / 08: 01

You are right - in every industry there are people who do something to do and earn something. I meet with this myself in my work, because some offer image creation in social media for pennies. Professional service unfortunately costs.

  12. Avatar Blogierka 19 April 2017 / 00: 10

Unfortunately, I don't have any statistics (I mean they suck), so I don't get any offers :).
And Januszy-bloggers are watching a lot! The sad thing is that they are spoiling the market for people like you, e.g.

  13. Avatar Justine 18 April 2017 / 21: 22

Maybe big corporations have finally started to appreciate bloggers ?! How many times have I received messages from really well-known big brands about barter cooperation! Let me get a gift in the form of a porridge packet! No! The only reward is usually the POSSIBILITY OF SIGNING WITH YOUR NAME. The knife opens in your pocket!
I often hear that it is bloggers that we get in ... fall over! From my point of view, this great corpo think they deserve everything for free!

    • Avatar [Email protected] 18 April 2017 / 21: 55

Bloggers can often be treated like this (I'm not saying everyone) and will do anything for a pack of chewing gums.

Everyone is right - companies and Bloggers. The fact is, however, that the blogosphere is broken by pseudo bloggers what they write about samples and free gadgets for companies.

  14. Avatar Iwona Siekierska 18 April 2017 / 21: 03

Is barter bad for everyone? I do not think so? Not only that, I think a beginner blogger can certainly start with this. It is only worth remembering one cool thing - recommendations? They, and not the ranges, open the way to earning money online

    • Avatar [Email protected] 18 April 2017 / 21: 52

Unfortunately, I will not agree - ranges are the most important, because they are the most reliable.

We also, as I mentioned in the text, started with barter cooperation. Thanks to this, we could go a step further - valuation of advertising on the blog. Everything came with time. We haven't earned a blog since its inception 😉

  15. Avatar * * Nataleczka 18 April 2017 / 20: 37

But how can a novice blogger know how to price such a sponsored article? There is nowhere ...

    • Avatar [Email protected] 18 April 2017 / 21: 49

And that's why a blog on this topic was created on our blog 🙂 We didn't know how to evaluate advertising activities on the blog and if it wasn't for my work, I probably wouldn't know either ...
